Caterpillar Hunter

Calosoma imbricatum

Description:

Black predatory beetle with killer mandibles. We found him murdering bugs next to a generator light (small Egyptian locust in picture). He ripped it's head off and then ate his was down through all the soft insides. He was very excited about water droplets, and ran towards them to drink them all up, he drank maybe 1/2 his body's volume in water.

Notes:

We scooped him up in this to go box because it was dark outside.
