Bill havy and pointed. In flight, legs xtend beyond tail. Voice- Quavering laughter, yodeling heard mainly on summer nights.

Habitat:

Summer and migration to lakes. Winter, coastal bays and ocean. Range: April- October VT, NH, ME September-April; entire coast.

Notes:

I seem to have an easier time photographing these guys while on the ocean during the winter months. Their colors (or absence of) seems easier to pick up at that time. Lighting needs to be right on for a good summer photo. Unfortunately, the sun was setting and was more of a backlight while I took these pictures.
