Asian Koel

Eudynamys scolopaceus

Description:

The Male Asian Kole is jet black with red eyes. The female is heavily speckled. The third photo is that of a Kole chick in a crow's nest (It grew up with another Kole sibling and a crow chick. All three were successfully raised.

Habitat:

Brood parasite.

Notes:

I have seen the Koel physically remove the host's egg from its nest. The crows recognize this bird and sometimes long chases can be seen with the male Koel luring the infuriated crows away from their nest so that the female can lay her eggs in peace.
