Gumleaf Grasshopper

Goniaea australasiae

Description:

Gumleaf grasshopper (Goniaea australasiae), also known as the Deadleaf grasshopper. The adult is characterized by the sharp prominent arched crest on the thorax, which together with the colour, gives it the appearance of a dry gum leaf.

Habitat:

Dry sclerophyll Black peppermint (Eucalyptus Amygdalina) dominant bushland.

Notes:

This is a third instar nymph.

Thanks for the reminder DTS. This was my first ever spotting, and the fields were different at the beginning of projectnoah. I need to go back and amend these early spottings.
