The fragrance and the early time in the year made me belive it is common "French" Lilac. The dark colour could come from the flowers not yet opened.
Now, I am not a lilac specialist.

Looks a bit dark to be a common lilac, there are loads of definerent varieties. But it's defintiely a lilac and they are definitely beautiful!
