Ruddy ground doves

Columbina talpacoti

Description:

Over the course of two weeks we saw the dove chicks shed their awkward downy feathers and turn into miniature versions of their parents. A week after the second photo, they had abandoned the nest and were on their own.

Habitat:

Spotted on farmland. Typical habitat includes scrub and open country, including cultivated land and urban areas.
