Aglais urticae

Description:

Medium size butterfly, 4-5 cm wingspan, females half a centimeter bigger than the male. The wing upper side is orange color with black and yellow markings as well as a ring of blue spots around the edge of the wings. The underwing is dark brown with a yellow band and bluish lunettes close to the apex. Both sexes are very similar in design and color.

Habitat:

Spotted in an oak forest. Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.
