Blue Crab

Callinectes sapidus

Description:

Medium sized crab. Greenish brown on dorsum. Underside pale. Bluish tint to legs. Orange claws. This is a younger specimen so the color is paler. The crab was alive but very sluggish.

Habitat:

Gardiner County Park. Beach of the Great South Bay.

Notes:

There were several of these guys of varying sizes. Some alive some not apparently alive. I believe the cold weather may have had an impact on the health of these crabs (the bay froze and thawed a couple of times during the winter).
