Female Purple- Rumped Sunbird

Leptocoma zeylonica

Description:

Drab grey on back, but a mellow yellow on the chest that shades into cream coloured abdomen. Curved needle-like beak. Comparatively less fearful than the male and allows the photographer to approach.

Habitat:

Flowering plants, especially the tubular sort. Here it is on the Tecoma capensis.

Notes:

Makes a happy chirping sound.
