Wrasse

Description:

About 20cm in length, with protrusive snout. Mainly grey-greenish, with two horizontal interrupted and irregular stripes along each side. There seem to be some other colours on the belly, as well as some further pattern around the head and fins... unfortunately, this was the only pic I was able to obtain, and in rather dark environment - the fish was hiding under a rock, but quickly disappeared as soon as I pointed my camera.

Habitat:

Observed under a rock in shallow waters close to shores, on a popular beaches in a village of Dubrovnik riviera (Cavtat). The depth in this zone is between 0,5m up to 3m, and then descending sharply down to 10m. The sea bottom here is rocky, creating many crevasses and tunnels, and rocks are abundantly covered in algae. In those deeper waters, there are some large colonies of sea grass.

Notes:

I'm quite puzzled about the ID of this one - at first, I run it as Five-spotted wrasse (S. roissali), but a friend of mine, a well versed fisherman, thought it must be the Peacock wrasse (S. tinca - for more see my next spotting). While I would normally value his opinion better than my own in matters of fish ID, here I am still unconvinced, and decided to keep it on genus level... if anyone has any more idea, you are welcome to comment.
