Spotting

Description:

Plant medium- large. Red with sheen when dry. Terminal resent but obscured in capitulum. Stem red; stem leaves lingulate- triangular, hyaline cells fibrillose infrequently septate. About 1 mm long; branches in fascicles of 2 pendant and two spreading, branch leaves about 1.5 mm, hyaline cells with large pores in proximal region and very small pores in distal region of leaf. Chlorophyllose cells more broadly exposed on concave surface, triangular-ovate.

Picea engelmannii alpine fen: Fischer Basin, North Cascades, Washington. At about 5000'
