Thank you for the reference link to the Flickr gallery of Indian bees. It and this spotting have opened my eyes to the wonderful diversity of bees.

Leanne, I have seen several two-toned bumble bees on my travels, but none as bright as this one.

Unfortunately i can't a more specific common name for this bumble bee, nor can i find anymore information on it

thanks injica. It was large, heavy and quite clumsy, and there were a couple of them that visited the garden every day.
