Western Yellow Legged Gull

Larus thayeri

Description:

Large sized gull but can be varied in size. Mature bird has Yellow bill with a red spot on lower mandible and red ring around eye. Yellow legs. White head, chest ,grey back and black wing tips.

Habitat:

Ocean beach,harbor,port and ships,vessel and shipping terminal,docks.

Notes:

I have been observing the Western Yellow Legged Gull and taking pictures. I am curious about this far flung traveler's arrival to our pacific shores. Perhaps it is a hybrid via mating in our native gull species. Many foreign ships and vessels dock here. Perhaps a vessel, shipping or shipping lane journey encouraged this gulls arrival to our coastal shore.
