Sandhill Crane

Grus canadensis

Description:

A tall gray bird with a red forehead and white cheeks.

Habitat:

Open marsh or bogs, wet grasslands and meadows. Eats seeds bugs and small vertabrates. Found year round in northern florida and migrates for breeding far up into Canada.

Notes:

The earliest these cranes will breed is after two years and up to as late as six years. They can live to be about twenty years old in the wild.
