Black-bordered Lemon Moth

Description:

Owlet moth with lemon yellow forewings and tiny blackish claviform and reniform dots. Terminal line is black, fringe is purplish gray. Wingspan ≈ 18-22mm; Total Length ≈ 10-12mm

Habitat:

Massachusetts westward through northern Ohio to Illinois and Oklahoma and southward to southern Florida and southernmost Texas. This one was photographed at a porch light next to a southern deciduous forest in Edgefield County, SC.

Notes:

Per Odonata Central, this spotting is a new species record for Edgefield County, SC. Hodges#9044. Adults fly May to September in northern areas and March to November in southern areas
