Pit viper

Bothropoides jararaca

Description:

Venomous snake responsible for most of bite accidents in Brazil. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bothrops_ja...

Habitat:

Atlantic forest

Notes:

Despite being famously known as an agressive species, this and all others I've encountered never tried to strike me, instead when I come closer for headshots they always turn away and flee. This was one of the biggest I've seen, slithering slowly parallel to the trail I was in, after walking past it to try taking frontal close-ups, it got scared and bolted away crossing the trail and disappearing in the vegetation. This one is also more yellow than they usually are, they use to be more dull in color.
