Description:

Some of the most commonly cultivated edible mushrooms in the world; smooth and elongated spores; usually monomitic (soft consistency)

Habitat:

Found in tropical and temperate climates throughout the world. Most species are white-rot fungi on hardwood trees and others decay conifer wood. Species of Pleurotus are also nematophagous, catching nematodes by paralyzing them with a toxin
