Metallic Carpenter Bee?

Xylocopa bombylans

Description:

Large, bright blue insect with a very loud buzz.

Habitat:

Riparian bush land - Harry's Hut camping area, Great Sandy National Park, Queensland.

Notes:

Seen near the canoe-launch area at Harry's Hut. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a clear shot but I believe this is a Metallic Carpenter bee. I can't find a pic that looks exactly like it.

Nice spotting then. Antennae, colour and abdominal segments look good.

Nah, we both looked at that. We're sure this is a bee. It was huge, much bigger and fatter than a wasp.

Yeah. Nath and I are both really leaning towards bee, but honestly, neither of us really have any idea.

Good colour. Did you check the Scolid wasps?
