Sundew

Drosera sp. Subgenus: Ergaleium

Description:

Growing on a thin stem from underground tuber, green, cream and pale pink plant (largest in this group under 20cm high), tiny white flower, leaves are covered with tentacles with sticky mucilaginous glands on the tips that attract, trap and digest insects that are unlucky enough to land on them, an insect diet helps supplement the plants nutritional needs in poor soils. Part of the largest genus of carnivorous plants.

Habitat:

Found throughout Australia, usually in poor soils and/or moist areas. These ones emerged after rain following very dry period where they were not observed for several years, near moist areas in dry Eucalypt woodland.

Thanks Lauren! I wanted to show up very close how beautiful they are glistening in the afternoon sunlight. They are so small, easy to walk over, keep looking for them wherever you wander, you're sure to find a species in some part of the world. I'm waiting to find some others that have a beautiful red flat base covered in sticky dew drops.
