Springtail

Collembola spp

Description:

These are to be found on almost any type of fungi. Tiny soft bodied hexapods usually between 1 and 3 mm long. This particular mushroom cap is about 18mm wide.

Habitat:

Any decomposing leaf litter or fungal detritis also on Myxogastria

Notes:

"Springtails are cryptozoa frequently found in leaf litter and other decaying material, where they are primarily detritivores and microbivores, and one of the main biological agents responsible for the control and the dissemination of soil microorganisms." - Wikipedia This group provides some problems with taxonomy. They have been around since at least early Devonian times. Please don't ask what the fungi species is - but if anyone knows for sure..... :)
