Queen snakes are unique animals, in that they almost exclusively prey upon freshly molted crayfish. When a crayfish molts they gave off certain chemicals in the water, and the Queen snake can easily cue in on these chemicals to find their next meal. Due to their specialized diet these snakes can only live in areas with large populations of crayfish, so they are most often found in shallow rocky creeks.
