Ganoderma australe (syn G. applanatum)
PROGRESS REPORT on a fungi spotting I made on March 29, 2014 - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/229... It's now 4 weeks since the original spotting and there have been some new developments. In this new set, photos 4 to 6 show the entire stump before and after. The large brackets which originally displayed beautiful, well-defined, colourful bands, have now become muddied, and the entire area looks like it is covered in red dust that has a very rust-like appearance. In the centre of the stump there is now a new bracket forming. A couple of days ago it was completely white, but now its top is taking on the same muddy appearance. This new bracket is also much rounder and mushroom-like, whereas the larger brackets are much flatter and thinner. Perhaps this new bracket will develop in the same fashion. Also, the central area of the stump seems to have rotted considerable over the past 4 weeks. Please note, this entire area has remained undisturbed since my original spotting. We've had little rainfall.
Found in my neighbour's backyard. These specimens were growing on a tree stump. Well shaded area. Lots of leaf litter and garden mulch. It has been much drier these past few weeks with considerably less rain, whereas the original spotting in March was after a period of considerable rainfall.
