Red Silk Cotton Bug

Dysdercus koenigii

Description:

Red insect with two larger dots on back and three smaller black dots along the mid-length of the body.

Habitat:

I saw this in a garden on a chilli plant, could hardly see the leaves for the bugs. But I understand the actual attraction was a Silk cotton tree (Bombax) that was nearby.

Notes:

There was a huge infestation that vanished soon. Apparently these insects feed on the seeds of the red Silk cotton plant.
