Ctenuchid Moth

Cyanopepla bella

Description:

Red and black moth with metallic turquoise blue scales on the body, legs and inner edges of the wings. The amount of metallic color visible varies with the angle. The male is slightly smaller and browner than the female. Mating: picture 4, Female: pictures 1 and 4, Male: pictures 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The red band on the upper wings can be complete, partially severed or completely broken (as in the 3rd picture). Family Erebidae, Arctiinae, Ctenuchini. The last two pictures were taken on 14 August 2014.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Erebidae, Arctiinae, Ctenuchini, Cyanopepla sp. and looks like being Cyanopepla bella.
