Description:

I first thought this was a mosquito but it's quite large and without a conspicuos propboscis, so maybe a midge? cranefly? another Dipteran?

Habitat:

Spotted on Bougainvillea in a large semi-urban yard & garden, near a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.
