American green treefrog

Hyla cinerea

Description:

Medium-sized (up to 6 cm SVL) bright green, yellowish green, olive green, or lime green frog with a few small splatters of gold or white. Belly clear pale yellow to white. Male slightly smaller than female. The male has a wrinkled throat indicating a vocal pouch. (information from Illinois Natural History Survey)

Habitat:

Woodland and marshland mix

Notes:

This treefrog hopped right up on this vine and sat perfectly still for photos. I couldn't ask for a better backdrop or pose. It was found on Snake Road in the Shawnee National Forest.
