Coppersmith Barbet's Nest

Megalaima haemacephala

Description:

Colourful little bird with a monotonous kuk-kuk-kuk call.

Habitat:

Likes to nest in hollow branches of trees. This one is in the branch of Neolamarckia cadamba. I have a video of it pecking away furiously at the old fungus-ridden branch to make this "nest." Its opening is an exact circle as if drawn using a compass.
