Lepus californicus
Long legged hare. Sometimes called rabbits, these are really from the hare family. The hare's young is born with fur and their eyes open. Their long wide ears help maintain their body temperture. The can run up to 35mph.
Open spaces and also deserts.
Spotted this through my windshield while parked on the side of the road.

Pretty much any open space. I went to the desert in Nevada which I only saw a few lizards, Darkling beetles and Horned Larks. And then the Jackrabbits. It says they will eat stems of sage brush.
Tons of these near Travis Air force base.
