Prunus maackii
This Amur Cherry (Prunus maackii) is beautiful broadleaf, deciduous, ornamental tree native to Eastern Asia. It's reddish- golden flakey bark truly shows in the fall to winter season and also belongs to the Rosaceae family. This tree shows sings of significant splitting up the trunk of the tree as well as the branches.
This Amur Cherry resides near a pond with three other Amur Cherry's. Mulch covers the ground to prevent weeds and to keep moisture and heat in. Very close to a pathway and receives plenty of sun.
Tree Tag # 40004001355 The cracks in the bark can be associated with frost damage. Most of the cracks on this Amur Cherry are South facing, which indicates that the morning sun would heat up the bark allowing it to expand and then contracting again one the sun and temperatures descended. Amur Cherry's do seem to have a thinner which would make them more susceptible to bark splitting. After bark has split and temperature stay above freezing, disease can harbour the tree or that part of the tree may dry up and die.
