Hairy Lentinus

Lentinus levis

Description:

Pale yellow to white mushrooms growing on a hardwood wound. Cap and base of stipe covered in fine, short hairs which are veil remnants. Smells slightly of anise. Spore print white. L. levis is often confused with the Veiled Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus dryinus). They are very difficult to distinguish, but this is likely the former as it is growing in a warm climate. P. dryinus prefers cooler weather.

Habitat:

Growing from a hardwood tree wound in a dense mixed hardwood forest.
