Corvus corax
The raven is a big black bird, a member of the crow family. It is massive, bigger than a buzzard. It is all black with a large bill, and long wings. We saw these in the mountains near Valencia and they were dwarfed by the Griffon Vultures who accompanied them to food scraps and a pair of Egyptian Vultures They quickly stole the eggs we had supplied (the Egyptians have a unique way of cracking eggs)
Common Ravens live in open and forest habitats across western and northern North America. This includes deciduous and evergreen forests up to treeline, as well as high desert, sea coast, sagebrush, tundra, and grasslands.
There are several videos on the Internet showing the high intelligence of these birds
