Calligrapha philadelphica
This beetle was sunning itself on the trunk of a tree in a mixed forest.
As the name implies, these beetles feed on dogwood.
Thanks kd, it does have some nice calligraphy. This other calligrapha beetle I just posted has a different pattern and a lot more color. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/299...
Another gorgeous beetle in your collection! The name and body pattern does suggest the art of calligraphy.
Thanks venusflytrap. Each species of Calligrapha has a different design and some have nice color patterns.
nice intricate design.
