White-necked Jacobin

Florisuga mellivora

Description:

We found these wonderful hummingbirds to be quite common in the Caribbean foothill forests of Costa Rica from 700-1000m in elevation.

Habitat:

Rainforest, forest edge, gardens surrounded by forest.

Notes:

These little birds can be quite aggressive and when in a combative mood will flare out their brilliant white tails and hold them like broad fans.
