Pituophis catenifer
The Pacific gopher snake is a subspecies of large nonvenomous colubrid snake native to the western coast of the United States. Wikipedia
Southern California coast.
My brother almost stepped on this snake as he was trail running. This is as close as we dared to venture since he did not know if it was a rattle snake. The picture was taken in Palos Verdes California, on a preseve.
Beautiful spotting! Please be sure to add this to the Snakes of the United States – CSC mission to help with their citizen science project!
