Spotting

Description:

Small tree. Height 10 feet. The tree has broad oval leaves. Its flowers are yellow and all in a bunch growing from the same twig.

Habitat:

Tacoma, Washington. Steep hill, a lot of long dry pine needles as underbrush, with some pine bushes. This day it was hot, but Washington does get a lot of rain.

Notes:

I noticed this tree had old dried seed pods from a previous season. I'm guessing the flowers turn into these seed pods. I opened one up as I show in my photo. I don't know what kind of tree this is, and I would really like to know. The flowers are pretty. I took this photo in late May.
