Lorquin's admiral

Description:

The Lorquin's admiral has brown-black wings, each with a row of white spots across it. Its forewings have orange tips.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Chinook Bend Natural Area. Preferred habitat: forest edges, mountain canyons, orchards, parks, streamsides, fencerows and groves of cottonwood and poplar.

Notes:

Range: British Columbia south to southern California and Baja California, east to western Montana and Idaho. Caterpillar Hosts: Wild cherry (Prunus), willows (Salix), poplar and cottonwood (Populus), and orchard trees.
