Eubalaena australis
Southern Right Whale (Eubalaena australis)
Adventure Bay.
Only a few months ago a Southern Right whale was sighted calving in a Tasmanian estuary, for the first time in 190 years. Eighteenth century Tasmania had an extensive whaling culture and it's good to see them returning to the now safe waters.
