Description:

A small passerine bird. Distinctive black and white bird with a long tail that is held upright as they forage on the ground or perch conspicuously.The male has black, female has grey or brown upper-parts, head and throat apart from a white shoulder patch. The sides and underparts of the body and the long tail are white.They do not fly very high and likes to stay close to the earth. It feeds on insects. Because of their nice singing calls, they are a favourite cagebird.

Habitat:

They are common birds in urban gardens as well as forests, open woodland, cultivated areas often close to human habitations.

Notes:

The Oriental Magpie-Robin is the national bird of Bangladesh. Local name is "Doel" in Bangladesh and west Bengal, India.
