Description:

Males perch during the day on low plants or bare ground to watch for females, flying periodically to patrol or to chase other flying insects. This butterfly appeared to like the gravel road in this part of the trails from the parking lot. Caterpillars and adults overwinter but only in the south.

Habitat:

Lowlands at the convergent location of the Trinity River and Clear Creek. Cool and shady in theaters of lowland forest. The understory vegetation has all the food this butterfly requires
