White Stork

Ciconia ciconia

Description:

These white storks have a prepared nest on top of a pole in a field. They have a single chick which they feed with small animals. As shown in one of the pictures the male or female has caught what looks like a duckling and brings it to the nest. What is remarkable is that they appear not to be able to fly directly from the ground to the nest (which is about 10 meters above the ground) but fly in circles around the nest while gaining altitude. The other picture is showing one of the birds leaving the nest and it literally drops itself from the edge of the nest.
