Australian Pelican

Pelecanus conspicillatus

Description:

A large waterbird. Predominantly white with black primary feathers and a large pale pink bill and pouch.

Habitat:

Along coastal waters of Australia, New Guinea, Fiji and Indonesia. These pelicans were spotted along the southern Mangroves at the Western Port Bay, Victoria.

Notes:

These were feeding off discarded innards of fish caught by a a local fisherman. Seen in the company of silver gulls, pacific gulls and black swan.
