Duchesnea indica
Small red fruit growing low to the ground. Still edible, though tasteless.
These were growing in the grass.

Machi, you could be right. I looked at the leaves in my spotting and they don't look toothed, as they would on a strawberry plant.
It could be snake berry, which is inedible. The seeds sticking out the way the are makes me think so http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mock_strawb...
Hm, NewYorker, I'm really not sure. I read on Wikipedia that berries in the Fragaria genus are edible, but it's possible that there are exceptions.
Saw some of these in my neighborhood. Are they edible?
