Kukui nut tree

Aleurites moluccanus

Description:

Big oblong fruits hanging down from a tree. The fruits are green and covered with a slight brown fuzz, as is the bark. From Wikipedia: “A Hawaiian condiment known as ʻinamona is made from roasted kukui (candlenuts) mixed into a paste with salt. ʻInamona is a key ingredient in traditional Hawaiian poke.”

Habitat:

Tropical rainforest in Rainbow Falls State Park.

Notes:

Also called candlenut tree or Indian walnut.

Hmm.. On second look the leaves don't look right either. I think I found it though, Aleurites Moluccana

Hmm, still trying to figure this one out, Machi! It seems that buckeye usually isn’t found out in Hawaii (https://plants.usda.gov/core/profile?sym...). Will keep investigating!
