This is my first ever spotting of a quetzal although not the best. Later I will post much better close ups of quetzals made in San Gerardo de Dota. I already want to post this spotting to call attention to people visiting the Cloud Forests of Santa Elena y Monteverde, since in both I could spot this beautiful bird. They are hard to find because the canopy is very tall and the forest very thick in these areas but with a scope and/or a good objective you can be lucky and make nice shots. I will describe the species in more detail in my future postings. Check the video. The bird seems to be a male but young because I could not see the long green tail feathers that are characteristic of mature males.

Thanks Gilma for making efforts to preserve this beautiful species! :-)
Nice spotting, Marta RubioTexeira.
Happy you got to see them. We (Costa Rican's) are working together in every way we can to keep their population growing and it is working.
