American Bald Eagle

Haliaeetus leucocephalus

Description:

An adult, American Bald Eagle

Habitat:

This pair of Bald Eagles have a nest high up in a tree located next to a dirt road that separates two sloughs

Notes:

We'd been watching this pair of Bald Eagles for a month or more as they settled into their nest and began the process of having a family. On this particular day we were there to see what waterfowl we'd find in the larger of the two sloughs when one of the adult Eagles flew out of their nest and landed with claws down on something along the bank of the slough. I shot a couple images of it from further away and decided to try slowing driving closer along the road. When we were almost parallel to their nest the one on the bank flew up, returning to their nest with either a clump of dried reeds to line the nest with or lunch wrapped in reeds...
