The Brahminy Kite or the Red-backed Sea-eagle is a medium-sized bird of prey in the family Accipitridae. They are found in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia and Australia. The Brahminy Kite is distinctive and contrastingly coloured, with chestnut plumage except for the white head and breast and black wing tips.
They are mainly seen in the plains but can sometimes occur above 5000 feet in the Himalayas. They are found mainly on the coast and in inland wetlands where they feed on dead fish and other prey.

Neil Ross,
I saw this one near a lake..........
I love pic 2!!
Sorry, I should have been more specific. I was wondering if you saw it in an urban setting or in the wild. It looks like the bird is standing in a stream in one of those photos.
I see these Kites in Brisbane, but they're always in flight so I've never been close enough to get a photo. Beautiful birds. Was this one wild?
great shot!
Kerala (India), TinaBaker.......................
