Four-lined snake (λαφιάτης)

Elaphe quatuorlineata quatuorlineata

Description:

A juvenile Four-lined snake (Elaphe quatuorlineata), spotted while swimming at a popular South Pelion beach, Pagasitikos gulf, Greece... We let him land, and from there he returned in to the wild, unharmed...The species is the largest non-venomous snake of Europe, and is very common in the Balkans...

Dear @Mauna Kunzah, it was a big surprise for us too :)

Dear @Mark Ridgway, the species can swim really well, and I guess that the snake fell accidentally into the water, and it was looking to reach the sand instead of the rocky beach he was trying to avoid...So it took him about 10' -15' to do so...
