Tailed Jay

Graphium agamemnon agamemnon

Description:

Papillionidae; Papillioninae; Leptocircini; Graphium Agamemnon Agamemnon Linnaeus, 1758. "Swallowtail butterflies are large, colorful butterflies in the family Papilionidae. The family includes the largest butterflies in the world, the birdwing butterflies of the genus Ornithoptera." Philepidoptera.

Habitat:

This specimen was captive reared and released into our garden when it eclosed from its pupa and was ready to fly. As mentioned in previous spottings, I have done this for some years to save as many as I can from the roadside verges immediately prior to the grasscutters arriving. Local officials let me know when the cutters are coming and I rush around collecting eggs and larvae to rear at home in cages.

Notes:

The Tailed Jay is also called Green-spotted Triangle, Tailed Green Jay or Green Triangle. Philepidoptera.
