Notes:

The Pied-billed Grebe is an excellent swimmer and diver. It often dives to evade predators. In fact, another name for the Pied-billed Grebe is the "Hell-diver." Other names include American Dabchick, Dabchick, Carolina Grebe, Dive-dapper, Dipper, Pied-billed Dabchick, Pied-bill, Thick-billed Grebe, and Water Witch. As with other Grebes, the nest of this species is a floating platform, and the parents share the duties of nest-building, incubation, and care of the young.
