Monarch butterfly caterpillar

Danaus plexippus

Description:

A beautiful Danaus larvae I spotted on the underside of an milkweed leaf.

Habitat:

A riparian area between farm fields.

Notes:

The Asclepias in our pollinator habitat attracts an very diverse range of insects. We've seen several bee species, a few moths, and this larvae.

Nice find Bill! I have been checking the Milkweed plants around here but haven't found any Monarch caterpillars yet.
